Genuine and Fake People

Genuine and Fake People For Business

Humans are quick to judge someone based on their outer demeanour and are poor critics of someone’s true personality. Instead of understanding people’s true selves, we often get influenced by what they say or pretend, and regret later. Especially in the business world, it is so hard to differentiate a genuine person from a fake person, because there is only a fine line between being truly nice and fake magnanimity. So, today I thought of sharing some basic ideas to differentiate the genuine souls from the pretentious ones, which is otherwise pretty hard to do. We eventually end up being close to people who don’t truly care, are not serious, or worst, are cheats. Fake people have this kind of air around them that makes them appear to be genuine and no one can really tell the difference!

Words and Actions

Once you have learnt to read a person’s body language, you will find that it speaks out so loud, you feel like you are listening to someone. Here are some possible meanings of many different body language signs. If you start reading this, read it till the end, to avoid getting it all wrong!

The Mouth

We all, subconsciously, take a few seconds to make our judgement about a new person that we meet. Let’s say you walk into a meeting room with 5 people seated in it. The first thing you will probably do is to look at all of them to understand or decide how comfortable we are going to be with each of those people. Remember, we are wired for self-preservation. So, as soon as we perceive someone or something as dangerous, we are automatically not so comfortable with that person. On the other hand, as soon as our brain perceives someone as safe, we feel comfortable being around that person. It is notable that once this first assessment is made, our feelings, posture, language and tone automatically adapt to it accordingly and hence, these first few seconds alone can make or break a business relationship. This could be while influencing someone in a sales situation, making a new business contact or even when trying to honestly connect with someone.

Smile

This is the most crucial body language signal. If you want to influence your first impression, use your smile in the right way. Also, learn to read the person’s attitude through his smile in the first meeting. This also appears to be the most recognized signal in every country and every culture. It indicates happiness, a friendly attitude and the willingness to communicate with someone. While a smile is obviously perceived as a sign of being interested, there is actually a lot more to it. Research suggests smiling is a learned phenomenon. Young babies don’t smile naturally. They mimic the expressions of those looking at them. But by the time we reach adulthood, it has become a signal critical to making a good first impression.

The psychological impact of our smile on us and how we feel is something that I am going to write in detail about soon, however, let’s look at the two main types of smiles first:

  • The genuine smile
  • The forced smile

In my next post, I am going to return with some detailed difference between the two types of smiles and how to read the hidden meaning in them. So keep checking back!

Good, strong, lasting business relationships take a dedicated amount of time and energy to build. Today people don’t seem to want to put in the time and effort it takes to form those relationships, in spite of knowing that these are an integral part of success. Lasting business relationships don’t happen or develop without dedicated, consistent work. As discussed in my post Successful Business Relationships, business network comprising of selective and qualified people that you can count on, tap into and rely on for support, direction and insight is much better than a thousand followers on a social networking website. While I do not deny the importance of social media in the success of a business, I intend to bring the attention of small business owners to the importance of finding the balance of being givers and takers. A very good way to do this is to form a power group of like-minded individuals on your company’s website. You may contact HyperEffects to know more about our one-hour free consultation session to all business owners to help them understand ways to grow their business relationships. We also work with your specific needs to create a website that may help you connect with your desired audience at a personal level.

We can’t just give or take, we need both. A small business owner must invest some time in personal engagement with prospective clients, partners, or customers, in order to form a lasting and beneficial business relationship. Engagement, selectivity and consistency are essential in finding great people and growing relationships with them. Here are a few ways to build lasting business relationships in today’s professional world.
